La noblesse

Diverses figures hieroglyphiques peintes par Raphael d'Urbin dans une des salles du Vatican à Rome

Nobility: a caryatid in a knee-high garment, holding a globe upon which stands Victory; after the figure designed by Raphael for the stanza d'Eliodoro; on white ground

Lettered : 'A Paris chez Audran rue St Jacques aux 2 pilliers d'or Avec Privil. du Roy'.

From a series of thirteen plates reproducing the figures designed by Raphael for the stanza d'Eliodoro, Vatican. The autorship of the plates is uncertain: Mariette (followed by Le Blanc) argues that the plates were engraved by Jean and Benoît Audran, under the direction of their father Gérard. But it is also possible that they were engraved by Gérard himself. See G.B. Pezzini, S. Mazzari and S. Prosperi Valenti Rodinò, "Raphael Invenit", Rome, 1985, p.52-53, Nos. 1-13.
