The Dragon Throne in the Hall of Supreme Harmony is entwined with nine dragons, symbolizing the the imperial throne, which represents the supreme power of the emperor. Legend has it that the dragon pearl atop the throne could test the legitimacy of the true Son of Heaven. 

the Dragon Throne in the Hall of Supreme Harmony was made during the Jiajing reign period of the Ming Dynasty. It is the only surviving Ming Dynasty imperial throne in the Palace Museum, with a history of over 500 years.
