Alfred Paul Emil Etienne Dumont (1828–1894) was a prominent Swiss landscape and genre painter, draftsman, and a notable member of the renowned Düsseldorf School of painting.
*A Sportsman’s Sketches* (*Zapiski okhotnika*) is a collection of short stories by the Russian writer Ivan Turgenev.
Twenty-one of these stories were published in the journal *The Contemporary* (*Sovremennik*), beginning with the first issue in January 1847, and three appeared in *The Herald of Europe* (*Vestnik Yevropy*). The first edition, published in 1852, sold out within six months; a second edition followed in 1859, with others appearing in 1860 and 1865. The complete edition of all twenty-five texts—in their definitive version, free from censorship cuts—was published in 1874. The collection consists of twenty-four short stories, the final one—"The Forest and the Steppe"—being a descriptive account of the author’s impressions while out hunting.
