SCHRETTEGER Johan (1764-1843).
Hexagonal shaped brass equinoctial sundial.
A dry cell compass is embedded in the center of the plate.
The ring-shaped hour dial is adjustable in inclination depending on the latitude of the observation location.  
The degree of latitude is given by a folding arc, graduated in degrees.
The gnomon, a thin brass rod mounted on a pivot axis, is articulated so that it can be positioned at right angles to the hour dial on which it is mounted.
Engraved on the back of the plate “Johan Schrettegger in Augsburg”.
Germany late 18th century.

SCHRETTEGER Johan (1764-1843). Cadran solaire équinoxial en laiton de forme hexagonale. Une boussole à cuve sèche est encastrée au centre de la platine. Le cadran des heures, en forme d’anneau, est réglable en inclinaison en fonction de la latitude du lieu d’observation.   Le degré de latitude est donné par un arc, repliable, gradué en degré. Le gnomon, fine tige de laiton monté sur un axe pivot, est articulé pour pouvoir être positionné à angle droit par rapport au cadran des heures sur lequel il est monté. Gravé au dos de la platine «Johan Schrettegger in Augsburg ». Allemagne fin XVIIIème.
